According to the 2018 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 9.9 million Americans have misused prescription drugs. Perhaps even more troubling is the fact that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from their medicine cabinets.
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day took place on Saturday, April 26, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM in Hennepin County, Minnesota. The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office partnered with the DEA and local entities to host several drop-off sites where residents could safely and anonymously dispose of unwanted or expired prescription medications.
Here are the locations that participated in the April 26, 2025 event:
- Walgreens Golden Valley: 2500 Winnetka Avenue, Golden Valley, MN 55427
- Walgreens Rogers: 21495 141st Avenue North, Rogers, MN 55374
- Walgreens Hopkins: 1511 Highway 7, Hopkins, Mn 55305
- Cub Foods Minneapolis: 2850 26th Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55406
- Hy-Vee Maple Grove: 18755 70th Way N, Maple Grove
Why participate in Drug Take Back Day?
Disposing of unused or expired medications properly helps prevent potential misuse, abuse, and accidental poisonings. It also helps protect the environment from medication contamination in landfills and water systems.
For those unable to participate in a specific Take Back Day event, Hennepin County offers several permanent medication disposal drop boxes located at pharmacies, hospitals, clinics, and law enforcement agencies throughout the county.
